ABOUT

A.I Development Service (ADS) is a Nigeria-based Limited Liability Company that signed a tripartite MOU on January 15, 2013 with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Borno State Government to implement a 5-year Entrepreneurship Development Centre North East programme in Borno State on behave of CBN, the Centre for the North-East region is to cover the states of (Adamawa; Bauchi; Borno; Gombe; Taraba; and Yobe). The initiative is aimed at promoting Economic Development; turn unemployed youth into productive citizens, as such reducing the crime wave. This will enable the CBN fulfill its mandate for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Community-based Economic Empowerment.

Every year large numbers of youth, mostly school leavers enter the labour market in search of employment in both the formal and informal sectors. As there are very few jobs to go around, most are forced to create their own employment as petty traders or become engaged in counter-productive activities. Currently, existing institutions are unable to contribute much to solving the employment problem.

EDC concept evolves from the realization that while entrepreneurs are neither born nor made, potential entrepreneurs can be developed and stimulated to start their own businesses through appropriate interventions. The EDC programme provides such intervention through a package of sub-programme consisting of training, consultancy and financing. EDC does not connote spoon-feeding entrepreneurs, but strongly supporting the full development of the potentials and capabilities of independent –minded and self-confident entrepreneurs who can successfully exploit business opportunities and overcome challenges in the environment.

Objectives of the EDCs

•Developing the entrepreneurship spirit amongst direct beneficiaries and providing insight into the tools, techniques and framework for functional areas of business enterprise including production, marketing, personnel and finance.

•Developing skills of direct beneficiaries to successfully start, manage, diversify and expand business enterprises to indirect beneficiaries and the communities at-large.

•Linking trainees to financial institutions for start-up capital especially, the Micro-Finance Banks.

•Generating employment opportunities for Nigerians in pursuance of the provisions of relevant government programmes.

•Raising a new class of entrepreneurs/owners who can compete globally, successfully manage micro, small and medium scale enterprises, and provide the catalyst for the industrialisation of Nigeria.

Activities of EDC-NE

Training Activities:

Since its inception in 2013, EDC-NE had developed an effective entrepreneurship training system that changed the lives of young and emerging entrepreneurs within the region especially in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Bauchi states.

The approach that distinguishes the EDC-NE entrepreneurship development training system is that in addition to providing training in English language, participants that are not English literate are learning in Local Hausa language and other local languages within the region. EDC-NE believes that business mindset re-orientation, personality development, attitude shaping and moral standards are an integral part of the participant’s entrepreneurial education.
